Many of our members have been keen but solitary observers for years. One of the main goals of our club is to encourage more group observing sessions.
Because of the unpredictable weather in our part of the world, the best solution that we have found is that the committee review the weather. Then on the preceding evening the decision, based on the forecast, is taken to go or cancel. Given a "Go" decision, the best location is decided on and members are informed by WhatsApp or by phone of the time and place. We observe from the carpark at Banna 2 and Fermoyle Beach in the Winter.
In the club, members bring quite a variety of telescopes and binoculars and members who do not have their own are always most welcome to come and have a look through whatever equipment is there.
Wear a woollen hat and plenty of loose, warm clothing, (un-insulated bodies cause air turbulence, resulting in poor images !!) Give your eyes a couple of minutes to get used to the dark before venturing out.
If you bring a torch be sure that it is a red light type. A bicycle's rear light is ideal. The white light of an ordinary torch will ruin everyone's dark adapted eyes for several minutes and make you quite unpopular!!
